[Also in Division C3] A water-or detergent-barrier composition comprises a dermatologically acceptable vehicle and a solution in an organic solvent of an ester of a C 6-22 fatty acid and starch, amylose or amylopectin, at least 50% of the hydroxyl groups of which are esterified. The barrier compositions may be in the form of a cream, ointment, aerosol composition stick, or lotion and may contain other conventional ingredients which render them useful as a moisturizing lotion, deodorant, sun tan cream or makeup base.
