Abstract

1,256,287. Reinforced tubes. YUGEN KAISHA NEYAGAWA KASEI KOGYOSHO. 23 Sept., 1969 [30 Sept., 1968], No. 46886/69. Heading F2P. A synthetic resin tube having a helical reinforcement material embedded in its wall is formed by winding wire 10 under tension about a rotating spindle 4, releasing the tension and then applying a synthetic resin band 13a over the helically coiled wire and heat sealing the abutting edges of the band. The reinforcement wire 10 is located in grooves 5 in driven rollers R 1 , R 2 located on opposite sides of the rotating spindle 4 and oppositely inclined thereto so that the wire 10 is wound under stress in the form of a helical coil on to the spindle 4. The pitch of the helical coil is determined by the inclination of the axes of the rollers R 1 , R 2 to the spindle 4. When the coil leaves the rollers R 1 , R 2 , the winding stress is removed and the band 13a of thermoplastic material is wound over the coil, the abutting edges of adjoining turns of the band being heat sealed to one another thereby forming a continuous inner covering layer. A further reinforcement material 14 such as thread or wire is wound on the inner covering layer which in turn is covered by a further covering layer of thermoplastic material 13b. The tube thus constituted is fed to a conveying section comprising grooved rollers 20 arranged with their axes inclined to the axis of the spindle 4 and driven in the opposite direction but at the same circumferential speed as the spindle. The angle of the axes of the rollers with respect to, and their distance from, the spindle 4 can be individually adjusted. Oscillation of the tube T about the spindle 4 is prevented by guide rollers 38a, 38b, 38c, Fig. 7, maintained in contact with the outer surface of the tube T and a roller 37 rotatably supported on an arm 36 attached to the end face of the spindle 4 and engaging the inside surface of the tube T.
