Abstract

1,256,149. Extracting proteins; enzymes. ROHM & HAAS CO. 19 Feb., 1969 [27 Feb., 1968], No. 9017/69. Heading C3H. A process for extracting a protein, which is precipitable from aqueous solution by adjustment of the pH to the isoelectric point of the protein, from a proteinaceous material containing it comprises contacting the proteinaceous material with a water-soluble non-dialysable enzyme preparation which is derived from a bacterial organism and can be precipitated from aqueous solution by the addition of either ammonium sulphate or ethyl alcohol. The proteinaceous material may be soya beans, lima beans, alfalfa, rice, wheat, corn, peas, coconut, peanuts, linseed, cotton seed, rape seed or fish derivatives. An enzyme (called " extractase ") suitable for the purpose may be obtained by cultivation of Bacillus subtilis, B. mycoides, B. amyloliquefaciens, B. cereus, B. macerans, B. megaterium, B. sphaericus or B. circulans. It may be purified by known methods or may be used in the form of the crude culture.
