1,255,964. Compositions for inhibiting scale formation. W. R. GRACE & CO. 28 Oct., 1968 [28 Feb., 1968], No. 51042/68. Heading C3P. [Also in Divisions C1 and C6-C7] A composition for inhibiting the formation of scales in aqueous solutions consists of 2-98 wt. per cent of lignosulphonic acid or a watersoluble salt thereof, 2-98 wt. per cent of a water-soluble organic polymer having a molecular -weight of 200 to 15,000,000 and having repeating units of the formula wherein R is hydrogen or methyl and R<SP>1</SP> is amide or carboxyl or a salt or ester thereof, and 0-96% by weight of water. Exemplified polymers are polyacrylic acid, polymethacrylic acid, sodium poly (meth) acrylate, potassium polymethacrylate, polyacrylamide, acrylamide acrylic acid copolymer, and hydrolysed methacrylic acid-acrylonitrile copolymer.
