Abstract

1,255,668. Bearings. LIPS N.V. 4 June, 1969 [5 June, 1968], No. 28353/69. Heading F2A. An apparatus for transferring a liquid under pressure from a member (not shown) to a passage in a shaft or vice versa, the member and the shaft being relatively rotatable, comprises a bearing. -In an embodiment a bearing 4, Fig. 1, having linings 5 and a radial passage 8, has a shaft 1, having a radial passage 3, mounted therein. The radial passages 8 and 3 are connected together by means of an annular passage 7 in the bearing 4. The latter is also-provided with an annular passage 12 which connects with a radial passage 11 formed in a ring 9. In use pressurized fluid is supplied from the member (not shown), through the radial passage 11 in the ring 9 and is conveyed by means of the passages 12, 8 and 7 in the bearing 4 to the radial passage 3 in the shaft 1. The radial passage 3 passes pressurized fluid to a control device of a controllable pitch propeller (not shown), via an axial passage 2. Some of the pressurized fluid passes between the bearing and the shaft and discharges through outlets 13, 14. The pressurized fluid in the annular passage 12 compensates for the outwardly directed forces due to the pressurized fluid passing between the bearing and the shaft. In modifications the ring 9 is omitted and the passages 12 and 8 are replaced by a chamber 15, Fig. 2 (not shown), and a ring 16, Fig. 3 (not shown), is provided with linings 5 which engage the shaft 1.
