Abstract
1,255,649. Modified melamine/aldehyde resins. STANDARD OIL CO. 6 Dec., 1968, No. 58042/68. Heading C3R. A resin is prepared by reaction of 2 : 2<SP>1</SP>- (1 : 2 - cyclobutylene) - bis - (4 : 6 - diamino - striazine), melamine and an aldehyde. Formaldehyde is preferred. The resin is mixed with fillers and additives to give moulding compositions. Suitable fillers are clay, asbestos, cellulose, paper and fibres. Preferred proportions are 0.1-20 moles of the diguanamine per mole of melamine, and aldehyde between 1 mole per mole of diguanamine plus melamine and 8 moles per mole of diguanamine plus 3 moles per mole of melamine. In an example aqueous formaldehyde, melamine and the diguanamine are condensed in a 7 : 3 : 1 molar ratio, and the product blended with TiO 2 , Zn stearate and α-cellulose pulp and dried to give a moulding powder. A table shows the effect of varying these proportions on the properties of the moulded product.
