Abstract

1,255,620. Precipitation of pigments. INSTITUT FUR LACKS UND FARBEN. 24 Dec., 1968, No. 61401/68. Heading B1X. [Also in Division C1] In a process for the continuous wet chemical precipitation of pigments, starting materials are continuously mixed in a first reaction chamber 1 having a stirrer 9 and a heating. mantle 2, and the reaction product is passed through a second, tubular, reaction chamber 3 having close-fitting, continuously driven, stirring discs 5 which produce a turbulent flow of the reaction product as it passes to an outlet 7. Different temperatures are produced along the second reaction chamber by a sectioned heating mantle 4. The two reaction chambers may be formed as different ends of a single tubular vessel, Fig. 2 (not shown). In the production of black iron oxide, .solutions of iron chloride and an alkali metal or ammonium hydroxide are fed into the first reaction chamber through inlets 8, and an oxidation agent, such as sodium nitrate, is added to the precipitate in the second reaction chamber through an inlet 6.
