Abstract
1,255,169. Centrifugal pumps. NASH ENG. CO. Dec. 10, 1968 [July 12, 1968], No.58668/68. Heading F1C. A liquid-ring pump assembly has a drive-shaft 10 mounted in bearing 62, 64 coaxially supported in a hollow pedestal body 52 attached at one end via a rabbeted joint 56 to the pump housing 20. The diameter of bearing seat 70 is equal to or greater than that of the bearing seat 68. Thus the bearing seats 68, 70 and the jointing surface 56 can be machined from one end of the pedestal body during a single set-up thereof on a machine tool. Similarly, other parts of the assembly, e.g. the pump housing 20 and body 40, can each be arranged to be machined during a respective single set-up. The pedestal body may contain lubricant for the bearings. Shims may be placed at 58 between the pedestal body and the pump housing to axially adjust the pump housing 20 and body 40 relatively to the rotor 12. Moreover, a disc spring (not shown) may be placed between the rotor hub and a shoulder on the shaft to permit yieldable adjustment of the rotor along the shaft by rotation of nut 28, and thereby cause the rotor to move relatively to the conical portion of body 40. The joint between flanges 44, 48 may be of the rabbeted type. Shaft seal 34, 36 biases the rotor 12 away from pump housing wall 32.
