Abstract

1,254,964. Light-sensitive switch. HORSTMANN GEAR CO. Ltd. April 1 1970 [April 10, 1969], No.18390/69. Heading G1A. A light responsive switch comprising a relay operated by a photo-sensitive element 16 in an enclosure 11 and 23 which has a photo-tropic plate, i.e. one which darkens and reduces its transmissivity with increased incident radiation, placed in front of the element to reduce the deliterious effect on the cell of persistent strong light, and so arranged that only light passing through the photo-tropic plate 24 can reach the element 16. The relay (36), Fig. 3 (not shown), or its equivalent containing switch contacts, and control circuitry are so arranged that when the intensity of light falling on the photo-tropic plate 24 falls to a chosen level the switch contacts are actuated in one sense and when said intensity rises to a second chosen level the switch contacts are actuated in the opposite sense. The two levels may be identical and the arrangement which may control lighting, may include translucent discs to obtain a desired intensity on the cell. Phototropic material, are exemplified.
