Abstract

In an arrangement for automatically positioning by means of a servomotor 22 a glass sandwiched slide 5 in a projector, a slit of light from a source 7 is directed obliquely on to a face of the slide and the reflections from the several faces are detected by photo-electric means having two parts 11, 12, the evaluating action of the separate parts being made different by for example a mask or translucent material to reduce the effect of the stronger reflections from the first and second surfaces encountered by the incident beam, and unbalance in the signals developed by the respective parts being used to control the servomotor. The photoelectric means may comprise a single cell or two separate cells, and one of the parts or cells may be of a different resistance from the other as an alternative to masking. Slit widths are discussed.
