Abstract

1,254,836. Phenazine derivatives. F. HOFFMANN-LA ROCHE & CO. A.G. 12 May, 1970 [14 May, 1969], No,. 22805/70. Headings C2A and C2C. Compounds I (including myxin) in which R 2 is straight chain 1-7 C, alkyl are prepared by reacting compounds II in which M is a base stable, acid labile protecting group with dilute acid and then treating the resulting product III with a hydroperoxide. Compounds of Formula V wherein R<SP>1</SP> 2 is H or straight chain 1-7 C alkyi and M<SP>1</SP> is as M or if R<SP>1</SP> 2 is alkyl M<SP>1</SP> may be H are claimed; per se. The starting material II is prepared by reacting phenazine-1,6-diol with potassium t-butoxide in hexamethyl phosphoric triamide to give 1,6- dihydrophenazine-5-oxide, followed firstly, by reaction of the latter with a compound capable of introducing the group M and then by alkylation.
