Abstract

1,254,753. X-ray stereoscopic apparatus. POLITECHNIKA WARSZAWSKA. 10 Jan., 1969 [11 Jan., 1968], No. 1597/69. Headings H4F and H5R. Apparatus for producing stereoscopic X-ray pictures includes two X-ray tubes for alternately X-raying an object, an image intensifier with a fluorescent screen, and means for displaying the images produced on the screen alternately to the eyes of an observer in such a manner that one eye views only the image produced by one tube, the other eye views only the image produced by the other tube, and the light received by both eyes is similar in wavelength and polarization characteristics i.e. coloured or polarizing filters are not employed. As shown, the beams from the two X-ray tubes 2, fed by the high tension generator 1, are each directed, at an angle to the axis of the system, towards the object 3 to be examined, which is placed in front of the photocathode 4 of an electronic image intensifier 5 having a fluorescent output screen 7. The movable diaphragm 17, which is synchronized with the high tension generator, permits the pictures produced on the screen by the first and second X-ray tubes to be viewed by a first and second television camera 9, respectively, which reproduce the pictures on the screens 13 for projection upon the mirrors 14 of a stereoscopic viewing system. Alternatively, the television camera 9 may be replaced by the two arms of a binocular direct viewing system (Fig. 1, not shown). In a further arrangement (Fig. 3, not shown) the movable diaphragm 7 and television camera 9 are replaced by a single shortmemory television camera and an electronic switch synchronized with the generator. The apparatus may be employed in the examination of time-varying subjects e.g. the lungs or the blood circulatory system.
