Abstract

1,254,532. Valves. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. 3 March, 1969 [4 March, 1968], No. 10297/68. Heading F2V. A fluid control valve comprises a valve body having a passage 6 in which a control shaft 9 is movably mounted, a shoulder 5 located in the passage defining a forward limit position of the shaft 9, a valve seat 3, a plunger arrangement comprising a plunger body 10 coupled to the shaft 9, a piston 15 slidably mounted in the plunger body 10, and biasing means 13 biasing a forward portion 21 of the piston 15 into sealing engagement with the valve seat 3 at a preselected force. The forward portion of the piston 21 is made of a soft material e.g. nylon, which seals against an inlet seat 3 of a container for storing gas under pressure. An elastomeric spring 13 urges a ball 14 into contact with a grub-screw that affords an adjustable means of selecting the pressure on one side of the piston 15. In use, the cylinder is filled by passing gas through the passage 4 to passage 2, the shaft 10 being retracted whereby the ring 16 engages the piston 15 to lift the valve member from the seat 3. When the shaft is turned to close the valve, the shoulder 5 prevents the shaft 10 from travelling too far into the bore. Pressure in the cylinder above the predetermined value causes the valve member to lift off its seat against the force of the elastomeric spring 13.
