Abstract

1,254,488. Anthraquinone dyestuffs. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 6 May, 1969, No. 22984/69. Heading C4P. The invention comprises dyestuffs of the general formula wherein X is OH or amino, R is OH, alkoxy, mercapto or alkylmercapto, Z is an optionally substituted phenylene or naphthylene radical and rings A and B may be further substituted. The dyes are preferably free from acid watersolubilizing groups. They are prepared by reacting a compound HZR with the corresponding 2-chloromethyl or 2-bromomethyl anthraquinone compound or alternatively the 2- methylol anthraquinone in presence of an acid catalyst. When R is OH or -SH, the product may be alkylated. The dyes give orange, red and blue shades by padding, printing or dyeing in wool, silk, synthetic polyamides, polyacrylonitrile, polyesters and cellulose acetates.
