Abstract

1460725 Anthraquinone dyestuffs IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 23 Jan 1974 [30 Jan 1973] 4580/73 Heading C4P The invention comprises water-soluble anthraquinone dyestuffs of the general formula wherein Z is H or -SO 3 H, R<SP>1</SP> is H or SO 3 H, R 2 is H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy or SO 3 H, X is =N-, =C-, -Cl or -OSO 2 - or a direct link, R<SP>3</SP> is alkylene, cycloalkylene or monocyclic arylene and R<SP>4</SP> is C 4 - C 12 alkyl or a cycloalkyl, aralkyl or monocyclic aryl radical, R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> together containing at least 8 C atoms, R<SP>5</SP> is H or C 1 -C 4 alkyl, and the dyes contain 2 or 3 sulphonic acid groups. They are prepared by reacting a compound of the general formula in equimolecular proportions in either order with an anthraquinone of the general formula and a compound R<SP>4</SP>-B-R<SP>3</SP>-A-H in which formulµ X,Y,Z,R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>5</SP>, A and B are as above. The dyes dye wool, silk and nylon in blue shades.
