Abstract

1,254,291. Hydrostatic transmission control. DOWTY TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. 18 March, 1969 [27 March, 1968], No. 14625/68. Heading F2D. [Also in Divisions G2-G3] A variable delivery swashplate pump 1 in a hydrostatic transmission has its swashplate biased to a minimum displacement position, such as by off-set of the tilt axis, and positioned against the bias by piston 9 responsive to pressure in chamber 16. The latter is supplied from the pump output 5 via 17 and restrictor 18 and connects with drain via ports 24, 25 in the piston rod 11 and a valve member 22 connected to rod 11 with lost motion by pin 29. Leftward movement of member 22 reduces the exit area from chamber 16 and increases the pressure therein to cause follow-up movement of piston 9 and increase of swashplate angle; rightward movement of member 22 causes reduction of the angle. When the swashplate is at its minimum angle, groove 19 in rod 11 by-passes restrictor 18 to unload the pump via 16, 24, 25, 27, 28. The pump delivers to motor 41 via reversing valve 42 whose control lever 45 may be connected to member 22 as described in Specification 1,254,292. In Fig. 1, not shown, the by-pass groove is in member 22 and piston 9 effects a pushing action. In other modifications, the valve member need not provide follow-up control, or piston displacement can be effected by conjoint but opposite variation of restrictors 18 and 24, 25.
