Abstract

1,254,271. Luminescent materials. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 25 Nov, 1968 [25 Aug., 1967], No. 39245/67. Addition to 1,161,871. Heading C4S. The method of preparing phosphors by precipitation in a stirred reaction solution to which anion and cation solutions are added as claimed in the parent Specification is applied to; PbSO 4 , when an excess of not more than 0-1M is maintained in the stirred solution; phosphors activated by lanthanide ions andcontaining Na or NH 4 ions or which are subsequently heated to up to 300‹ C. to remove chemiluminescence; alkaline earth fluoro-halides and phosphates; metal carbonates; BaSO 4 activated by Ce, Gd and Tb; SrSO 4 : Eu and SrCO 3 : Cu. The preparation of Ba, Ca, Sr and Pb sulphates activated by Eu or Sm; BaFCl; BaF 2 : Eu<SP>++</SP>; BaCO 3 activated, by Pb or Eu; BaPO 4 : Eu is described. The reaction solutions may include formamide, alcohols and acetic acid. The reaction solution may be stirred by introducing anion and cation solutions as jets or they can be added to. the reaction solution flowing in a conduit. The phosphors are excited by cathode rays, u.v. radiation and. X-rays. Their u.v. emission may be used to initiate photochemical reactions.
