Abstract

1,254,079. Phosphorous acid diesters. DEUTSCHE ADVANCE PRODUKTION G.m.b.H. 18 Nov., 1969 [27 Dec., 1968], No. 56373/69. Heading C2P. [Also in Division C3] Phosphorous acid diesters: in which R and R<SP>1</SP> are different and are C 1-14 alkyl groups which optionally contain ether linkages, alkenyl groups, aryl groups or aryl groups substituted by C 1-9 alkyl groups; at least one of R and R<SP>1</SP> contains one or more Cl and/or Br atoms, may be prepared by reacting a monoester: (RO)(PO)(H)OH with a triester (R<SP>1</SP>O) 3 P in an equimolecular ratio yielding the desired product (RO)(R<SP>1</SP>O)H(PO) and the diester (R<SP>1</SP>O) 2 (PO)H which can be distilled off. In an example, mono-#-chloroethyl phosphite is reacted with trimethyl phosphite at 100‹ C. for 4 hours. Then dimethyl phosphite is distilled off to yield a residue of methyl-#-chloroethyl phosphite. Several other phosphite diesters which are stated to be novel are specified.
