Abstract
1,254,027. Glycerine. ASAHI GLASS CO. Ltd. 22 Aug., 1969 [26 Aug., 1968], No. 41961/69. Heading C2C. A method for continuously producing glycerine by the hydrolysis of epichlorohydrin comprises continuously introducing epichlorohydrin and an aqueous mixed alkaline solution containing sodium carbonate and sodium hydroxide into a perfect mixing reactor to effect hydrolysis of the epichlorohydrin and continuously withdrawing the reaction mixture from the reactor to obtain glycerine, the chemical equivalent ratio of in the aqueous mixed alkaline solution introduced into the reactor, the residence time inside the reactor and the feed ratio of epichlorohydrin to the aqueous mixed alkaline solution (Na 2 CO 3 +NaOH) being regulated so that the reaction mixture withdrawn from the reactor contains no sodium hydroxide and the chemical equivalent ratio of in the reaction mixture withdrawn from the reactor is maintained within the range of 0À01 to 0À98. Yields may be increased by heating the reaction mixture withdrawn from the reactor, optionally with evaporative concentration. The chemical equivalent ratio of Na 2 CO 3 to Na 2 CO 3 + NaOH in the feed may be 0À01 to 0À5 and that of Na 2 CO 3 + NaOH to epichlorohydrin may be 0À95 to 1À50. The residence time may be 10-300 minutes and the reaction temperature 50-100‹ C.
