Abstract

1,254,007. Polyamides. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 23 Sept., 1970 [23 June, 1969], No. 45291/70. Divided out of 1,254,003. Heading C3R . Polyamides are obtained by condensing at 160‹ to 300‹ C. a bis(aminophenyl) and a dicarboxylic acid using as catalyst the product formed by adding to the reaction mixture at below 150‹ C. a salt of hypophosphorous acid and an organic base of pK a less than 3-0 other than an aminophenyl sulphone. Other features of the invention are the same as in Specification 1,254,003 which relates to the use of salts of the excepted base. Specified organic bases are 2- or 4-acetyl aniline, 4-(p-aminobenzoyl) aniline, 4 - benzoylaniline, 3 - methylsulphonyl aniline, 2 - bromo-, -chloro-, -iodo-, -cyano- or -nitroaniline, and 4-cyano-, or -nitro-aniline. Reference is made to Specifications 1,113,824 and 1,161,124.
