Abstract

1,253,594. Paper. VITA MAYER & C. GIA F. LLI VITA S.a.S. 25 Feb., 1969 [24 Dec., 1968], No. 9898/69. Heading D2B. A paper of high porosity and wet strength comprises 20 to 80% of natural vegetable fibres, 80 to 20% of man-made fibres and two binders of which one is carboxymethylcellulose of a degree of substitution between 0.4 and 0.8, the other is a water-soluble, wetstrength polyamide, and each is present in an amount of between 2 and 4% by weight of total fibre weight. It may be made by stirring an aqueous slurry of fibres of the two kinds and carboxymethylcellulose, adding the polyamide while continuing to stir and sheeting out by conventional papermaking methods. In the Examples, the man-made fibres are: rayon staple (Examples 1-3, 6 and 7), waste from textile mills comprising 80% cellulose acetate and 20% nylon 66 (Example 4) and polypropylene (Example 5).
