Abstract

1,253,516. Container for blood. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. 14 Feb., 1969 [19 Feb., 1968], No. 8055/68. Heading A5R. A fluid container, into which blood for example may be drawn, comprises a fluid inlet conduit 4 with a nozzle 5 inclined to the inner wall of a vessel 1 so as to direct the fluid against the wall and produce a swirling motion of the fluid. The container may be used to form part of a blood collecting arrangement extending from the site of a surgical operation to a vacuum pump, the direction of the blood against the wall of the vessel reducing the frothing of the blood, a feature commonly associated with these types of blood containers. The container may include a removable cover 3 and a generally U-shaped handle (6), Fig. 3 (not shown) pivoted about a collar (7) on the vessel. A resilient pin (9) carrying a member (8) may bridge the handle, so that in an upright position the member is firmly pressed into a groove (12) to receive the cover.
