Abstract

1,253,382. Air cushion vehicle. HOVERMARINE Ltd. 31 March, 1969 [3 April, 1968; 14 Feb., 1969], Nos. 15953/58 and 8078/69. Heading B7K. [Also in Division H4] A water-borne air cushion vehicle 1 is provided with an echo-sounding transducer unit 6 which in use is disposed beneath the cushion 3. The transducer 6 is situated during operation substantially vertically below the centre of pressure of the cushion and. is attached to a two-part support column 7 of elliptical section which may be raised or lowered by means of a handle 32 attached to a nylon roller 8 which has a serrated portion 31 to engage with a serrated portion of the column 7. The column is supported by two pairs of rollers 8 inside an elliptical casing 10 and is sealed off by means of a series of flexible segments 27, 28 of the type described in Specification 1,043,351. In an alternative embodiment the transducer (41), Fig. 4 (not shown), is attached to a support (42, 43) which is hinged to the body of the air cushion vehicle and may be pivoted thereabout by means of an actuator (47) which urges the transducer to its extended position and is connected to a relief valve (55) controlling the escape of hydraulic fluid to reduce the possibility of damage by impact with floating debris. The Specification describes a method of obtaining access to the transducer during operation using a polyethene bag attached to the floor of the vehicle.
