[Also in Division F1] The flats 48a, 148a formed in the induction and exhaust passage portions 18a, 20a, 118a, 120a of an I.C. engine cylinder head during casting are machined off by a rotating frusto-conical cutter 50. The cutter 50 has a cone apex angle of 45 degrees. Counter-bores 54, 154 which receive annular valve seats, may be simultaneously or subsequently machined in the base of the head 10.
