Abstract

1,253,244. Thermal storage heaters. TYRAD Ltd., and R. D. JACKSON. 12 Feb., 1969 [12 Feb., 1968], No. 6821/68. Heading F4U. A thermal storage heater has a fan 38 for circulating air through the core 20 and between the core and an outer casing 10, a thermal switch 40 normally ensuring that the fan operates when the temperature of the casing is below a predetermined value. A time switch connected in parallel with the switch 40 normally ensures that the fan operates at predetermined times of day. A further thermal switch prevents energization of the core heating elements when the core temperature is above a predetermined value. Switches responsive to ambient temperature prevent energization of the fan and/or the heating elements during hot weather. The heating element and fan circuits include fusible links to break the circuits under abnormal conditions. Air from the fan 38 passes through passages 26, 24 and 28 in the core to a chamber 34b, and then flows through the space between the core lagging 22 and the casing 10 before returning to the fan inlet. In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), air from the core flows through a space between the core and its lagging before passing into contact with the outer casing.
