[Also in Division C7] A composite material for adding a fugitive material, which is difficult to add, to a final alloy (e.g. a scavenging element), is produced by making a master alloy of the fugitive material in one of the components of the final alloy, analysing the master alloy casting, rolling it to a thin sheet, sandwiching the sheet between two thicker sheets of material so that the melted composite will have the correct final analysis and hot pressing and rolling the sandwich with an optional post annealing possibly in a protective atmosphere. In examples a copper-boron master alloy sheet is sandwiched between two gold alloy sheets. Reference is made to the use of the composites in jewelry, dentistry or brazing.
