1,252,861. Carbostyril derivatives. DAINIPPON PHARMACEUTICAL CO. Ltd. 29 Jan., 1970 [1 Feb., 1969], No. 4449/70. Heading C2C. The invention comprises compounds of formula wherein R is alkyl, alkenyl or alkoxy, and a process for making them by treating 4-hydroxy- 3-phenylearbostyril or its monoalkali metal salt with (a) an acylating agent, or (b) (where R = alkoxy only) phosgene or a nitrophenyl chloroformate, followed by reaction of the intermediate carbostyril-derived chloroformate with an alkanol. Therapeutic compositions for oral administration comprise compounds of the above formula, said to be minor tranquilizers.
