Abstract
1,252,823. Discharging arrangement for hydrocyclones. K. A. SKARDAL. 30 June, 1969 [9 July, 1968], No. 32882/69., Heading B2P. In a hydrocyclone for treating cellulose fibre slurry, the amount of liquid discharged with a heavy reject fraction is controlled by means of a device comprising a cylindrical vortex chamber 1 connected to. the bottom outlet of the hydrocyclone and provided with a fixed outlet port 4 located in or close to the cylindrical wall of the chamber 1, and a flow guiding member 7, Fig. 1, adjustably positioned within the chamber for deflecting the vortex flow, produced in the chamber by a portion of the liquid discharged therein with the reject fraction, away from the cylindrical wall of the chamber at the location of the outlet port 4, the extent of the deflection, and hence the amount of liquid discharged through the outlet port 4, being determined by the position of the flow guiding member. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the upper side of the member 7 facing the interior of the vortex chamber 1 has semi-circular surfaces 10, 11 respectively perpendicular and inclined relative to the axis of the chamber, the two surfaces being joined by a triangular surface 12 parallel to the axis and extending diametrically through the chamber. The member 7 is rotatable by means of a pivot shaft 8 and a handle 9. In Figs. 4 and 5, the outlet port 4 is located in the bottom of the chamber 1. The guiding member includes a body 13 extending along a portion of the cylindrical wall of the chamber I and having a substantially uniform radial breadth and an. axial height which increases continuously from the bottom of the chamber in the direction of the vortex flow 6. The body 13 is rotatable by means of a pivot pin 17. In a modification, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), the flow deflecting body (19) has a uniform axial height approximately equal to that of the chamber and a radial breadth which increases in the direction of the vortex flow, the outlet 4 in that case being in the cylindrical wall of the chamber. In Fig. 8, the flow is deflected by means of a plate spring 23 having a fixed end 23<SP>1</SP> and an opposite end 23<SP>11</SP> adjustably positioned by means of a screw 24. The width of the spring substantially corresponds to the axial height of the chamber 1.
