Abstract
125,281. Mitchell, J., and A.B.C. Coupler, Ltd. June 18, 1918. Buffers for railway vehicles and the like of the type described in Specification 22430/14, in which the plunger B, Fig. 1, is inserted into the casing C from the front and retained therein by a locking-bar I engaging slots H<2> in the plunger. According to the invention, the locking-bar I is inserted into the slots H<2> through additional slots H' provided in the casing C. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the bar I is located between two springs D, E, and the buffer is assembled by passing the plunger into the casing, inserting a guiding-washer F, the front spring D, and a front washer G, compressing the spring D so as to allow the bar I to be inserted through the slots H<1>, H<2>, inserting a rear washer J with a central projection and the rear spring E, and finally bolting the base-plate M to the casing. In a modification, the front spring D and washers F, G are omitted, and the slots H<2> are made of a smaller length. In another modification, Fig. 5, two locking-bars I<1>, I<2> with washers J<1>, J<2>, J<3>, J<4> are employed in conjunction with front and rear springs D, E, and two slots H<4>, H<6> are provided in the casing for the passage of the plates I<1>, I<2>. In this case, the front spring D acts also as a recoil spring.
