Abstract

1,252,633. Automatic voltage regulation. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP. March 12, 1969 [March 19, 1968], No. 13028/69. Heading G3X. A D. C. voltage reference source having a low output impedance and a stabilized output VO over a predetermined temperature range comprises an inverting operational amplifier P1 with a Zener diode in its feedback path and an inverting operational amplifier P2 whose associated resistors R3, R4 are chosen to provide substantially unity gain, the amplifiers P1, P2 forming a closed loop in which the output voltage VO depends only on the voltage eZ of the Zoner diode and may be varied by adjusting the closed loop gains of the amplifiers. To obtain stability over a predetermined temperature range, the resistor R1 is adjusted to bring the current through the Zener diode to a desired value corresponding to a required temperature co-efficient of the diode. The voltage VO is then adjusted to its desired value by varying the resistors R3, R4. Adjustment of resistors Rl, R3, R4 then-continues until, by successive approximations, the desired temperature-independent voltage VO is obtained. The theoretical basis of the circuit is discussed Figs. 1 to 4 (not shown) and typical values of the circuit parameters given.
