[Also in Division E1] A sealed joint, enabling a pair of sheet piles P 1 , P 2 to be driven together, is formed by injecting under pressure into the gap 5 between engaged locks 3, 4 a polymerizable adhesive. The gap is closed by seals 7 and bars 8 through which at least one nozzle 9 projects for injecting the adhesive at a pressure of several tens of bars. A number of bars 8 may be used arranged end-toend, or a single pair which are moved progressively along the piles if the injection operation is performed in stages. An epoxy resin adhesive may be used containing a setting accelerator if it is to harden while cold. The resin may be rendered thixotropic by 0À2-2% of silica gel and includes a filler, e.g. sand, foundry silica, metallic powder or carbon black, equal to 100- 250% of the weight of the resin. The product may be heated to 180-200‹ C. by induction, burners, resistance or hot air for setting a hotsetting adhesive or for accelerating a coldsetting adhesive. Flat piles, Fig. 4 (not shown), and a connecting clip may also be joined.
