Abstract

1,252,274. Composite metallic material. OLIN CORP. Nov.6, 1968 [Jan.12, 1968], No.52558/68. Headings C7A and C7D. A composite comprises a cathodic metallic matrix having structural integrity with, and interspersed with, 0.1-25% of an anodic metal which is not in solid solution nor in inter-metallic compound form, wherein some of the anodic material is exposed to an aqueous medium at the surface of the composite whereby an insoluble dispersed hydroxide film is formed which is electro-phoretically deposited on the cathodic matrix from a positively charged colloid or fine precipitate. The composite pairs are as follows:- The matrix metal may be alloyed with one or more of:- Al 0.5-10% (except where the matrix is Al base) Si 0.2-5% Cr 0.5-20% Mn 0.2-10% Ni 0.5-40% Zn 1-35% (except where the matrix is Zn base) Be 0.05-4% My 0.01-2% Ti 0.01-5% Zr 0.01-2% Co 0.01-4% When the matrix and the dispersed material show little tendency to react the composites may be made by casting and working, in the case of reactive pairs powder metallurgy must be used. In the examples very low heating temperatures are used.
