Abstract
1,252,257. Measuring temperature electrically. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Dec. 10, 1968 [Dec. 28, 1967], No. 58871/67. Heading G1N. A temperature sensing transducer comprises a coil assembly, 11, having four similar conductors 1, 2, 3, 4, forming first and second pairs of windings in adjacent arms of a unity ratio inductance bridge, the first pair, AB, being connected in series aiding and the second CD, in series opposition. Temperature-dependent changes in resistivity of a liquid sodium coolant in a nuclear reactor cause to be changed the permeability of the medium linking the active windings AB, thereby unbalancing the bridge. The coil assembly may be wound using a single four-core cable or two separate coils (18, 19) may be wound from twocore cable, Fig. 3 (not shown). The bridge is energized at a frequency of 10 to 20 kHz. It is stated that the transducer may be used to sense displacement of a conducting medium.
