Abstract
1,251,831. Unsaturated esters and aldehydes. C. G. M. SLESSER and A. R. CUMMING. 9 Jan., 1969 [13 Jan., 1968], No. 2035/68. Heading C2C. α,#-Unsaturated esters of monocarboxylic acids, 1,2-glycols, hydroxy ethers, aldehydes and epoxide are prepared by passing a gaseous olefin and oxygen simultaneously into a liquid medium selected from water, alcohols and liquid monocarboxylic acids, said liquid medium containing a catalyst in the form of palladium-containing particles so that the olefin and oxygen react together to form in solution in the liquid medium an epoxide at least a portion of which then reacts with the liquid medium to form at least one of said organic compounds, and separating one of the said organic compounds as a major product.
