Abstract

[Also in Division F4] A device for producing ice cream, water ice and sherbet, and intended for location in the freezing compartment of a refrigerator, comprises two ice mix compartments 2 1 and 2 2 containing stirrers 31 and 3 2 which are both driven by an electric motor 5 and which are each automatically disengaged from the motor when the mix in the respective compartment exceeds a given viscosity. A toothed element 13 2 is mounted on each stirrer shaft 10 in such a manner that the element has axial freedom of movement but no rotational freedom of movement relative to the shaft. A spring 14 biasses the element 13 2 into engagement with a further toothed element 13, which is carried by a gear wheel 9. The shaft passes freely through the element 13 1 and the gear wheel 9. The wheel is driven, through further gears by the motor 5. The teeth on the elements 13 1 and 13 2 are shallow and have inclined faces so that at a given mix viscosity the elements slip relative to each other. The two compartments may contain different mixes.
