Abstract

1,251,158. Explosive devices. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 7 March, 1969 [8 March, 1968], No. 12293/69. Heading F3A. An explosive device comprises a casing 2 of substantially symmetrical transverse crosssection, an explosive charge 4, an insert 3 of a material which has low sound transmissivity and a detonation propagation element 1, the contacting surfaces between the explosive charge and casing, between the insert and both the explosive charge and detonation propagation element, and between the explosive charge and the detonation propagation element, being coaxial conical surfaces. The insert is formed of plastics material, metal or gypsum and delays detonation in the axial direction so that initially detonation is transmitted radially around the insert. The element 1 is formed of explosive. Any two conical surfaces within the device which contact each other are formed using shaping means which have been made on the same machine with identical setting of the machine components. Any lack of symmetry in the individual components of the device can be compensated by a displaceable base member (7, Fig. 2, not shown) inserted between the casing and detonation propagation element.
