Abstract
1,251,011. Coding and decoding. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. 1 Jan., 1970, No. 12/70. Heading H4P. In a circuit converting a first binary code represented by a positive followed by a negative potential and a negative followed by a positive potential into a second binary code form represented by positive and negative potentials, each incoming first code element is sampled during its first portion and stoved temporarily in analogue form then compared in a comparator with the second portion to determine the significance of the element. The comparator is only effective during the second portion. An incoming signal IP is amplified and fed to a capacitor through a sampling gate SG enabled by sampling pulses tl, see Fig. 1 (not shown) the capacitor voltage being compared in a comparator COMP with the signal during second sampling periods t2. The output of the comparator displaces a JK flip flop to a corresponding 1 or 0 condition. The sampling gate comprises cascaded transistors (T1, T2) Fig. 3 (not shown) which are rendered conductive by t1 pulses; hence a capacitor C charges through another transistor (t3) if the pulse on T2 is higher than the capacitor charge, or C discharges through a diode D if the pulse on T2 is lower.
