Abstract

1,250,962. Mixer, solid/liquid and solid/gas contact. SIMON-CARVES Ltd. 3 Nov., 1970 [18 Nov., 1969], No. 56296/69. Headings B1C and B1F. [Also in Division F4] A vessel 10 provided with a longitudinally extending protuberance 13 is arranged to be oscillated about its longitudinal axis such that particulate material passing through the vessel is repeatedly transferred from one side of the protuberance to the other, thereby being mixed. The vessel, which may be oscillated by means of a rack and pinion drive 18, 19, may be cylindrical or trough-shaped, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown). The protuberance may be wedgeshaped or part-circular in cross-section, Fig. 5 (not shown). The material passing through the vessel may be either directly or indirectly heated or cooled, e.g. by means of gases passed through the vessel or by partial immersion in a water bath. Ports may be provided either in the protuberance or in the upper part of the vessel for the introduction of gases. Burners for suitable liquid or gaseous fuel and/or weir plates may be mounted within the vessel.
