Sewing-machines; jeed by dogs. - Reversible feeding mechanism is constructed so that, for any length of stitch, the work-advancing movement of the feeding element in one direction begins at a fixed point, close to the needle, and its reverse feeding movement ends at the same fixed point. The feed-dog 30 is carried by a feed-bar 29 pivotally supported on one arm of a rock-shaft 27 with 'a second arm 26 pivotally connected to a connecting-rod 24 actuated by an eccentric 22 on the main-shaft. A movable fulcrum 38 for the connecting-rod is provided on a link 37 pivotally-eonnected to one arm 40 of a lever 41 mounted on the bracket arm of the machine. The rising-and-falling movements of the feed-bar are derived from a cam 32 on the looper-shaft. In normal working, the lever 41 is adjusted so that, when the connecting-rod 24 is in its extreme left-hand position, the centres 38<1>, 42<1>, 39<1> are in line, and in reverse working, the lever is adjusted so that, when the connecting- rod is in its extreme right-hand position, these centres are again in line. Variations, within limits, in these adjustments determine the length of stitch, without materially varying the initial or terminal position of the feed-dogs.
