[Also in Division Dl] A warp beam comprising a plurality of rolls of strip material 8 on a common support 7 is produced from a web 2 in a method comprising cutting the web parallel to its longitudinal direction, e.g. by a row of knives 5, and oscillating the resultant strips transversely relative to the support, e.g. by means of a reciprocating guide 6, whilst winding them on to the support. The support may be reciprocated longitudinally as well as, or instead of, the guide 6, and the amplitude of the relative oscillations is preferably between one-fifth and onehalf of the strip width. The strips may be diverged before winding, the amplitude of oscillation being less than the width of the gaps between the rolls so that the strips of adjacent rolls do not overlap. The web may be of stretched plastics film, paper, or textile material, and the resultant warp beam may be used for a weaving or knitting process. A heating tunnel 11 for relieving uneven stresses in the strips may be provided between the knives 5 and the guide 6.
