Abstract

1,250,179. Variable resistors. NIPPON KOGAKU K.K. 24 Oct., 1968 [24 Oct., 1967], No. 50555/68. Heading H1S. A variable thin film resistor, has resistive film portions disposed in a track over which the contact 7 passes and formed from the same material with a constant resistance per unit area. Some of these portions (in sections A-C) are continuous whilst others (in sections D and E) are interconnected by parts of another resistive film having a different resistance per unit area. To secure a non-linear characteristic, parts of the first resistive film may be toothed as at B, serpentine as at C; have parts interconnected by film of different resistance as at D, or be made into a serpentine pattern by the addition of parts of a different resistance material as at E as well as employing a wedge-shaped truck as a A. Arc-shaped or linear tracks may be used and sputtering or vacuum evaporation may be used to deposite the parts of the two resistive films through masks. The thickness of the resistive films may be varied.
