Abstract
1,250,142. Corrosion-resistive coating. SHIKOKU KASEI KOGYO CO. Ltd. 12 Jan., 1970, No. 1422/70. Heading B2E. [Also in Division C7] Corrosion of Cu or Cu-based alloys is prevented by coating the surface thereof with at least one compound wherein R is a C 5 to C 2 , straight chain alkyl, R<SP>1</SP> is H or C 1 to C 3 lower alkyl, or an acid addition salt thereof. The addition salt may be formed with HCl, HNO 3 , H 2 SO 4 , H 3 PO 4 , maleic, lauric, stearic, oxalic, succinic, acetic, capric, glycolic, p-nitrobenzoic, p-toluene sulphonic, picric, fumaric, tartaric, adipic, azelaic, sebacic, salicylic or citric acid. The compound may be applied as a solution in water and/or an organic solvent, e.g. MeOH, EtOH, iPrOH, nPrOH, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, acetone, acetonitrile, dioxane, pyridine, butidene, benzene, toluene, n-hexane, trichloroethylene, or CCl 4 , by spraying, dipping or coating, or the compound may be used alone as a vapour phase inhibitor. Alternatively a mixture of a 2-alkylimidazole as defined above with an acid addition salt thereof may be used or a mixture of a said 2-alkylimidazole and an acid addition salt of an amine, which may be Me 2 NH, MeNH 2 EtNH 2 , ethylenediamine, ethanolamine, aniline, or pyridine.
