Abstract

1,249,886. Cable drums. SIEMENS A.G. 4 Nov., 1968, No. 52242/68. Heading B8M. A dismantlable cable drum comprises two drum flanges 1 and a core 2 of mat-like construction composed of a plurality of components 3 extending parallel to the axis of the core, the components 3 being hingedly connected to one another at their adjacent longitudinal edges. The components 3 are preferably in the form of bars which are held together by transverse clamping bands 9 or webs of paper, textile material or plastics material, the bars being held concentrically in the drum flanges by a plurality of longitudinal bands 6 or clamping bolts. The mat-like core is advantageously received in grooves disposed concentrically in opposed faces of the flanges. The longitudinal bands 6 are preferably provided at their ends -with loops which extend through slots in the flanges and the bands are held by wedges driven through the loops. In an alternative construction of the mat-like core, the components are in the form of shaped elements held in the manner of chain links by clamping pins extending longitudinally of the drum, each link being held by two neighbouring pins and the .links in adjacent rows being offset. The components of the mat-like core may comprise profiled bars of plastics material, the bars being hingedly connected by their respective shaping, e.g. one end of the bar being provided with a hook and the other end with a groove, whereby adjacent bars interengage. The profiled bars may be hollow with reinforcing subdivisions therein.
