Abstract

1,249,610. Measuring speed electrically. GLANSTOFFA.G. March 4, 1970 [March 12, 1969], No. 10351/70. Heading G1N. A method of measuring the speed of a filament or yarn comprises detecting an electrostatic charge pattern on the filament at each of two spaced measuring electrodes 3 and measuring the time interval between corresponding voltage surges in the signals obtained. The charge pattern may be produced artificially by spraying electrons from a spraying electrode; or by producing zero-charge areas by means of an A. C. field. Means are provided to prevent radio interference from the spraying electrode causing erroneous results on the measuring electrodes. The circuitry involved in the arrangement comprises a measuring head 2 including the electrodes 3, a preamplifier 4, an impedance transformer 5, an amplifier 6, a discriminator 7, a pulse shaper 8 and a time interval measuring device 9.
