Abstract

1,249,531. Benzimidazoles. FUJI PHOTO FILM CO. Ltd. 21 Oct., 1969 [22 Oct., 1968], No. 51602/69. Heading C2C. [Also in Division G2] 2 - N - Butyl - 5 - nitro - benzimidazole is prepared by refluxing a mixture of o-phenylenediamine and valeric acid and subsequently nitrating with concentrated sulphuric acid and nitric acid. 2-N-Pentyl-5-nitro-bemimidazole is prepared similarly using caproic acid instead of valeric acid. Bis-[5-nitro-benzimidozol-2-yl] methane is prepared by refluxing in ethylene glycol o-phenylenediamine and malonamide and subsequently nitrating with concentrated sulphuric acid and potassium nitrate. Bis- 1,4 - [5 - nitro - benzimidazol 2 - yl] butane is prepared similarly starting from adipic acid instead of malonamide and refluxing in hydrochloric acid.
