Abstract

1,249,459. Sulphanilamido - isothiazoles. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 3 March, 1970 [11 March, 1969], No. 10131/70. Heading C2C. Novel compounds (I) (including salts thereof) where R 1 and R 2 signify H or optionally substituted aliphatic or aralkyl radicals or taken together comprise a ring, are made by interacting an appropriate 3-amino-isothiazole and p-X-C 6 H 4 S(O) n .Y (X is NH 2 or a radical convertible thereto, n is 0, 1 or 2 and Y is halogen) followed, if necessary, by oxidation and/or hydrolysis steps; several intermediate acetamido-derivatives of I (i.e. NH 2 is replaced by MeCONH) are isolated. 3 - Acetamido - benzisothiazole (prepared by reacting hydroxylamine hydrochloride with 3- acetylimino - 3H - 1,2 - benzodithiole) is hydrolysed to 3-amino-benzisothiazole. Pharmaceutical preparations showing antibacterial action contain I as active ingredient; administration is, e.g. orally or parenterally.
