Abstract

1,248,957. Mounting electric motors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 16 Dec., 1969 [16 Dec., 1968], No. 59626/68. Heading H2A. A hollow outer shell 1 containing the rotor and stator of an electric motor is of die-cast metal, e.g. pressure or gravity cast Al or Al alloy, and has on its outer surface longitudinallyextending fins 5 of which some at different positions around the shell provide seating surfaces for the attachment of detachable feet 6 or other supports the number and disposition of the surfaces being such as to enable the shell to be supported in at least two different positions by attaching the feet or supports to different selected surfaces. Fig. 3 shows the feet 6 attached by screws 11 engaging steel nuts or plates 12 or alternatively screwed into the fins 5, whilst Fig. 6 shows four arms 21 attaching the shell to a cylindrical duct 22 by screws 23 and location adjusting shims 24. A lifting eye, Fig. 5, and other feet and arms, are disclosed attached to the surfaces. The invention is applicable to totally enclosed motors having a cowl to direct air from an exterior fan along the fins.
