Abstract
1,248,613. Making heat exchangers; jointing. STOLLE CORP. 2 Oct., 1968 [5 Oct., 1967], No. 46721/68. Addition to 1,175,086. Headings B3A and B3V. To secure an elongated metal member to a flat metal sheet the member is laid on the sheet in contact with a strip of thermoplastic synthetic resin adhesive; the sheet is clamped over the area not occupied by the member and the assembly is heated to melt the strip. In securing a sinuous copper tube 15 to a flat aluminium sheet 16 to produce a radiant heating-cooling panel three stations A, B, and C are employed. Stations A and C are assembly and cooling stations and B is a heating station. At each station a support block 10, 11 or 12 of annealed steel or cast aluminium is provided and over these blocks a perforated aluminium belt 13 is arranged to pass. The aluminium sheet 16 is placed on the belt with strips of thermoplastic synthetic resin adhesive on the sheet. The resin may be screen printed on the sheet. The sheet is located by fingers 30 and a jig 14, comprising a cast aluminium plate 17 to which is secured a block 19 of asbestos fibre and binder, the underside of the block having a groove 20 with a strip 21 of silicone rubber or stainless steel springs, holds the tubing in the groove by pressure pins engaging the sides of the tubing and fingers engaging under the ends of the tubing emerging from the groove. The jig is releasably attached by a pin 81 to a shank 34 vertically slidable in a guide 35 on the frame 35a and the jig is lowered on to the sheet 16 and released from the shank to press the tubing on to the sheet and the sheet on to the belt. The block 10 at station B is heated to 510‹ F. to soften the bonding material. After a short time the assembly is moved by the belt to station A or C where the block is heated to 300‹ F. to permit cooling.
