Abstract

1,248,602. Knitting - machines. BENTLEY ENG. CO. Ltd. 24 Oct., 1969 [9 Nov., 1968], No. 53199/68. Heading D1C. A circular knitting-machine includes an infinitely variable hydraulic transmission coupling it to its drive. In one embodiment lever 5 operates the piston of the transmission which in turn influences its output speed. The lever has a detent which is held by a lever 16 should a stop button or fault detector. operate. A button is pressed to start the machine which moves a slide to release lever 16. While the button is held down an edge of the slide 28c engages stop 29 so that lever 5 is held in a slow speed position. When the button is released one of a number of stops 35, 36 engages a corresponding face on cam 37 selected by the main control when a speed change or drum racking is initiated the machine runs slow. A solenoid plunger 14a pushes the lever 5 into the stop position if the power fails. In a modification (Figs. 6-9 not shown) a hand lever (77) is pulled forward so that the main lever (49) is pulled towards one of the preset positions where it is maintained by a holding magnet. The machine can therefore be idled at any desired speed before the drive is engaged.
