Abstract

1,248,403. Closure transfer device. PNEUMATIC SCALE CORP. 29 Oct., 1968, No. 51267/68. Heading B8T. A closure transfer device includes a hopper 28 which supplies randomly disposed closures to a rotary orientating disc 34, orientated closures being delivered by a pneumatic tube 42 to a continuously rotated transfer disc 22. A photoelectric device 66 regulates the number of closures at the tube outlet 46, which is aligned with recesses 70 which terminate at pockets (74) Fig. 7 (not shown). The recesses 70 together with arms (80) Fig. 5 (not shown), transfer upright closures to the pockets 74 below which is a suction opening (84) which retains the closure until a plunger (86), elevated by a cam (136), Fig..8 (not shown), raises the closure for gripping. by chucks (12), Fig. 1 (not shown), on a uniformly rotated closure applying disc. The transfer disc speed is varied by a Geneva mechanism 144 so as to allow the plunger, which is in a reciprocating slide member 92, to maintain alignment with the chuck during duration of the transfer of the closure to the chuck. In a further embodiment, the transfer disc has curved cut-outs which terminate in hooklike pockets (188), Fig. 9 (not shown).
